Notre Dame - Undestroyable Cathedral

One of the most important historical sites globally is an iconic cathedral located in Paris, France. This is one of the greatest pieces of architecture that represents gothic design and has been a representation of French culture for centuries. It is one of the most visited sites in Paris and attracts more than three million visitors every year.


Notre Dame was built in 1163, but it underwent repairs in several stages and only got fully completed at 1345. These are notable additions to the structure like installation of flying buttresses during the 14th century and a new spire replaced in the 19 century.


Notre Dame has been instrumental in French heritage since time immemorable. During this period, it saw the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte as emperor in 1804 and the burial ceremony of Charles de Gaulle in 1970.


However, the influence of the cathedral goes beyond history and has had an inspirational effect on several literary pieces. The story of Quasimodo, the bell-ringer hunchbacked, who fell in love with the beautiful dancer of the Egyptians, which is considered to be one of the most famous novels by Victor Hugo (“The hunchback of Notre Dame”), was published


It is more than just an important building, as it has immense cultural and religious implications. It remains a place where Catholic masses and other religious ceremonies are held every day.


A major fire struck Notre Dame in April in 2019 causing serious destruction to the cathedral. As the fire burnt away the roof and spire; the main structure was well preserved. As a result, the French government pledged to reconstruct the cathedral to its original state. Presently, this reconstruction is taking place.




In conclusion, Notre Dame was one of the most imposing cathedrals associated with the cultural heritage and history of France. To this day, over one million people are attracted by its gothic scale’s architecture. Moreover, it has been used as a source of creativity in literary and continues to be acknowledged as a place of worship. After the catastrophe in 2019, France assisted Notre Dame to return to its former glory.
